Meet Dan Spring

My name is Dan Spring, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I created Neurodiversity Aware Therapy to serve the needs of Neurodivergent people like myself. I became interested in counselling because I recognized that many of my Neurodivergent friends, students and colleagues struggled with accepting themselves, feeling confident and building self-esteem. My interest in the Neurodiversity Paradigm began over twenty years ago when my son experienced obstacles to learning in elementary school. Working with my son led me on a journey that included twenty years of tutoring, ten years of teaching and eight years of experience as an Inclusion Support Teacher, creating and managing teams of professionals to support Neurodivergent students and their families. Building on my experience in inclusion support, I completed a Master’s degree with a focus on Neurodiversity. Shortly after graduating, I developed Neurodiversity Aware Therapy (NAT) as part of my post-graduate research in the field of counselling. I am honoured that Canada’s federal government has recognized me as an important researcher in the field of Autism and Neurodiversity, and am continuing my work at the doctoral level.
