Counselling from Lived Experience

Are you neurodivergent? Welcome! So am I!

You don’t have to have a diagnosis.

What does it mean to be “neurodivergent”? Essentially, being neurodivergent means having a different way of thinking, feeling and/or perceiving the world than the average person. Sometimes, a neurodivergent person is diagnosed with anxiety, ADHD, Autism, or various differences in learning style. Other people might go their whole lives without realizing they are Neurodivergent.

Neurodiversity Aware Therapy is an integrated, strengths-based approach that supports Neurodivergent people with proven, practical strategies to support them to live their best lives. At the core of Neurodiversity Aware Therapy is the recognition of the essential dignity and humanity of Neurodivergent people. Many distressing conditions and experiences are triggered and magnified by oppressive stigmas, trauma and a simple lack of knowledge. We meet with clients online to provide the safest and most relaxing counselling sessions possible.

My Services

My name is Dan Spring, and I created Neurodiversity Aware Therapy to support Neurodivergent people with specialized supports. My approach is informed by a lifetime of experience navigating the world as a Neurodivergent person, parent, educator and counsellor.

  • Autism isn't a flaw or something that needs fixing. It's a unique lens through which we experience the world. In our sessions, we'll explore the strengths and perspectives that come with autism, celebrating these differences. Embracing your individuality opens doors to understanding and acceptance, creating a space where your talents are truly valued and appreciated. I'm here to support you on this journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

  • Our connections with what is called “ADHD” are deeply personal, each story unique in its own right. With the shame attached to pathologization, it can be challenging to ask for help. Amidst the diverse viewpoints, let's journey through your experience using language that genuinely reflects who you are – embracing your most authentic self. Together, we can foster a compassionate relationship with your mind, nurture a genuine appreciation for your individuality, and build skills that will support you to live your best life.

  • Anxiety can feel like a storm brewing, a puzzle you're deciphering, or a recent discovery reshaping your world. We are here to walk alongside you, to explore your unique relationship with anxiety, and the diverse emotions and challenges in your world. Through this journey, we'll cultivate a deeper understanding of what anxiety really is, how it protects us, and how we can bring it into balance in your life.

  • Wanting to unlock your child's full potential in an educational setting? This session for parents will explore the specific needs and perspectives of children to grow an understanding of the kinds of supports that will help them be successful in school, from a neurodiversity awareness lens.

  • Promoting true equality, diversity and inclusion for neurodivergent people in the workplace means training staff and managers to recognize and provide supportive environments for neurodivergent employees and contractors.
